We use The Westminster Standards to derive our liturgy. The Greek word for liturgy is leitourgia, which is broken into two other words: people (laos) and work (ergon). “Liturgy” is work of the people of God’s corporate worship service.
Worship at Covenant is traditional, covenantal, and confessional. We adhere to the Regulative Principle of worship. This means worship should only include practices explicitly commanded in Scripture. As the Westminster Confession states: “The acceptable way of worshipping the true God is instituted by himself, and so limited to his own revealed will, that he may not be worshipped according to the imaginations and devices of men, or the suggestions of Satan, under any visible representations or any other way not prescribed in the Holy Scripture.” (WCF 21.1)
If you are looking to visit or want to know more about what a Sunday looks like a Covenant Church, you can check out our bulletins or sermons page! For a quick overview, here is an example of our liturgy:
If it is a Lord’s Day in which we partake in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, we will have a Hymn of Preparation to be followed with communion and a Hymn of Response. You can see our standards for the requirements to participate in communion on our What We Believe tab. We alternate between our morning and evening worship with the Lord’s Supper — one Sunday will be morning service, and the following Sunday we will partake during the evening service.
All services will be ended with a Benediction from our Pastor.
